Introduction
Freeplane makes it possible to create graphical, branching documents called Mind Maps. Also, many people use the program as an alternative to a tabbed notebook or a personal information manager.
Information is stored in text boxes, called nodes. The nodes are connected together using curved lines called edges.
Press the right arrow key, or click the left mouse button on this node to unfold it

Freeplane is a powerful and free mind mapping application. It is a redesigned version of the well known FreeMind, and is created by one of FreeMind's key developers. The software is written in Java, and supports any platform capable of running current versions of Java, including:
If you paste a file list selected in Explorer in Microsoft Windows, it is pasted as a set of links to the files.
If in Freeplane you copy a branch and paste it into a plain text editor, the tree structure is shown by indentation. Hyperlinks are pasted in <> brackets. An example follows.
Tree
If in Freeplane you copy a branch and paste it into an editor that understands Rich Text Format (RTF), the formatting including color and font is pasted too. Editors that understand RTF include Microsoft Word, Wordpad and Outlook, some tabbed notebooks in Linux, and TextEdit in Mac OS X.
To copy a node without its descendants, use Edit > Copy Single or press Ctrl + Shift + C.
